in the company of good food

This is a busy time of year where we work hard, but enjoy the rewards of the hard work all year long. The garden is being harvested and much canning and preserving is being done. I love this time of year because it reminds me how wonderful good food is. Food that is free of chemicals like herbicides and pesticides. Food that didn’t get shipped across the country, but simply made it way about 20 steps from the garden to the kitchen. A garden and food that was crafted by myself, husband and daughter.

We have a process that works and we stick to it – and it makes for delicious food all through the year. We have a small garden so we certainly can’t supplement our entire food needs, but we do end up with enough pasta sauce and jams to not have to buy any for the year.

This year we also grew black beans which will be dried and sustain some of our needs for a portion of the year. Other wonderful things came from the garden as well, some were eaten too quick to have leftovers :)

The house smells delicious as we cook down out tomato sauce - yum!
